Welcome to my Portfolio!

This is the current film-making portfolio for Alexandra Haley, hoping to study BA (Hons) Filmmaking. I have a lot of planned projects still to come in the year, but for now here are some of my current projects.

Love Story

Here is an untitled short film made for AS Film Studies. Here I acted as director and costume/set designer, as well as starring in it. The story is about fate and the different paths we can take in life depending on the circumstance - it first shows a love story when a couple meet by bumping into each other, but then rewinds back to the point where the couple meet and the car from the first shot happens to drive by a few seconds too quickly, killing the male character so that the couple never actually meet. This is only the first draft and is currently in the improvement stage. Best played in the HD YouTube setting.

Little Red Riding Hood

I decided to create a small simple trailer for my own adaptation of 'Red Riding Hood'. As a narrative it has been re-created in the film industry many times, but fairytales always prove successful because everyone is familiar with the stories. The camera quality and stability isn't the best, but I decided to concentrate on the concept. Best played in the HD YouTube setting.

Her Name Is Alice

Here is the music video that my group and I created for the song 'Her Name Is Alice' by Shinedown in order to promote a fictional band - Truth Of The Fallen. It's an Alice in Wonderland theme - not quite a stereotypical one, with more mysterious conventions inspired by the video game, American McGee's 'Alice' and 'Alice Madness Returns'. We were given a few months to complete this but we finished in less than a week. In this project I was in charge of directing, costume and set design, casting, assistant editing, and I also starred in the piece as 'Alice'. Best played in the HD YouTube setting.

Liberty

'Liberty' is an opening to a psychological thriller film which my group and I created as part of our AS coursework. Originally a lot of the clips were longer which made it flow better, but unfortunately we had to cut these down to fit the time limit. The opening involves a teenage couple investigating an abandoned building, to find a man being sacrificed with the last word 'Liberty'. The idea was inspired by the film 'Citizen Kane' where the meaning of the last word 'Rosebud' (shown in the opening) is revealed at the end of the film.

Experiment

Here is a video I made when experimenting with camera shots and editing from some household objects. I called it 'Sperimentare con oggetti' which means 'experimenting with objects' in Italian.

Porphyria

'Porphyria' is a disease in the blood that can cause mental disturbances and sensitivity to sunlight, something which could be considered an explanation for vampyres. My group and I decided to build on this concept to create an opening to a supernatural thriller/horror of the same name for the start of our AS coursework. It is about a young man who has an alter ego of a vampyre (alike to the concept of Jekyll and Hyde), but doesn't know this because when his other side takes over, he has no memory of it. My main roles here were director and assistant editor.
